Phuket Cat Hospital Opens

The new cat hospital at the Phuket Soi Dog Foundation began treating its first feline patients last month.

Named the Jeanne Marchig Cat Hospital, the building was specially designed by Able Architects as as a place where cats can undergo operations and recovery in a hygienic, stress-free environment.

Inside the cat hospital is an operating theatre, three separate cat suites, and two separate outside runs.

We designed the shelter to remain cool in the tropical heat with a configuration that allows fresh air to circulate, eliminating the need for air conditioning, which is especially important in keeping maintenance costs down for the Soi Dog Foundation, which relies purely on charitable donations.

We are honoured to have contributed our architectural services free of charge to help improve the foundation’s facilities and give the cats they save a new lease on life.

Funding for the construction of the cat hospital was donated by the UK charity the Jeanne Marchig Animal Welfare Trust; hence the centre’s given name. The equipment and furnishings were bought with donations from 5th graders at The American School of the Hague in the Netherlands, who spent two years raising the funds.
