Defining the art of Tropical Living

The popularity of European architectural concepts in Thailand has seen many of the country’s architects rushing to learn the building practices and styles of the West so they can bring their concepts back home to cater to the demand from foreigners and Thais.

The most obvious problem with this way of thinking is that Western style architecture simply isn’t practical in a tropical location like Phuket. The designs of homes suited to a much colder climate may look good and give the home owner certain prestige, but living in them can be costly and inconvenient.

According to Architect Director of Able Architects, Pakhin Aunggulsant, a fusion of traditional Thai house designs, especially those of northern Thailand, and innovative yet simple concepts for tropical living are the best solution for creating homes that are most suited to places like Phuket.
